Norman has been involved with coffee for as long as he can remember. The son of a coffee producer, Norman realised a long held dream by purchasing Finca San Judas in the Cordillera de Dipilto in 2000. The farm enjoyed ideal climatic and soil conditions for growing coffee. At that point in time the farm measured 6 hectares. In 2013 Norman acquired an additional 17 hectares of land from a neighbour which also happened to have coffee growing on it. This proved to be a turning point for Norman. With more land and a new found focus on the specialty coffee market, Norman renovated his plantation and planted new varietals more suited to specialty coffee. He also improved his tree management and coffee processing practices. This drive allowed Norman to achieve better prices for his coffee and in turn he has re-invested this back into his farm and its infrastructure. In the long term, Norman plans to continue investing all his efforts into improving the quality of his coffee, improving his yields and maintaining consistency of his product.
This particular lot was selected during our visit to Nicaragua earlier this year. It was a standout on the cupping table and a coffee which we hope to be the first of many that we source direct from Norman and his farm, Finca San Judas.
